Post subject: Tolkien and Renault, a practical question
Archived from groups: rec>arts>books>tolkien (more info?)

Tolkien and Mary Renault publicly admired each other's work.

Renault's book, The Last of the Wine, leaves out a section that
she did not want to cut, but her publisher insisted that the book
be shortened. This section was loaned by the author for
certain fans to read while she was still alive.

I can supply more details if anyone is interested, but first I would
like to know, based on the vast restoration and preservation of
Tolkien's work, what might be a proper avenue of approach to
achieve a restored version of The Last of the Wine?

Also, is there any possibility that the Tolkien Estate might become
interested in such a relatively simple-seeming project?
