I have just read the Treebeard Chapter in the Two Towers, and it
strikes me that JRRT has used this to get across some form of
political stance on the environment - describing the way Saruman has
changed in the eyes of Treebeard from an amiable young man to a
power-crazy politician...

let's trust that the younger generation who read LOTR take much more
notice of JRRT's ethos than the current set of "TORY" politicians that
power over our green and pleasant land...
