I'm sure nobody knows the answer to this,
and I'm not sure there's even an answer,
but I was wondering if anyone knows what
K. was charged with, what was his crime?

Hello,

I believe the whole point to The Trail is that neither Josef K nor the
reader knows what crime has been commited. It is also worth bearing in mind
that the book was unfinished at Kafka's death so we do not know whether he
ever intended to reveal the crime, though I suspect not.

Yes, the point is that no one knows, not even those who seemingly ought to
know. Only those very high up in the ministry where such orders come from
"might" know, but even then I was led to believe that they might not know.
There is probably only one who actually knows, and as I was reading this I
came to the conclusion that in this "universe" that Kafka built, a great
number of people inevitably somehow become charged with some crime, and
perhaps they, too, will never know what it is they were charged with.
Perhaps it is this particular society's way of maintaining population
control? Who knows. It's a shame that Kafka did not finish this work. But
then again, I've read that he rarely finished a work.
