Is it related to the card game "Set"?

Love that game. Although, for me, the easiest ones to find are
either the "everything the same and 1 different" or "everything
different". It's when you get 2 things that are different with
everything else the same that I have trouble spotting them
quickly.

"Everything the same and 1 different"? One card or one
property? Because 1 card different makes an invalid set...

"Everything different" seems to be everyones hardest.
I know people who base their game strategy simply on looking
just for those sets and beating the other players to them.

Playing Set with math PhDs can be frustrating.

I used to take my Set deck to the laundromat with me
and play solitaire-style while supervising the machines.
(Making sure none of my clothing wandered off without me.)

Properties. Sorry.

For me, those are the easiest. It's where there are only 2 of
the properties that are all different where I have troubles.
It's that middle line that I have a hard time seeing sometimes.

Really? It's the "all same and only one property different"
that are among the easiest sets for me to spot. My difficulty
level shades smoothly upward with the number of properties
that vary in a proposed set. Iiiiiiiinteresting...

Fool's mate? Something along the lines of

1. P-e4, P-e5
2. B-c4, B-c5
3. Q-h5, Kt-a6 (black has many opportunities here to spoil the fool's mate)
4. Q-f7 mate

Many, many years ago when I was maybe in my early teens one of my friends
was a (semi?)finalist in the New Orleans junior chess competition. I
played him one day (in my home) and out of curiosity set up a fool's
mate -- and he fell for it. I suspect that he never expected anyone
to try it on a player of his level -- and I never was more than a novice.

This reminds meof something I read recently:

Following the decision by the Episcopal Church USA to ordain a
homosexual Bishop, the Anglican Church in England has passed a request
to the "colonies", requesting that all members of the Episcopal church
refrain from playing chess for the time being. Seems they have a problem
telling the difference between a bishop and a queen. (Hopper)

Now now, let the Episcopalian tell the joke. Wink

As told to my dad by their seminarian (he is studying to become a
priest)

Why can't Episcopalians play chess?

Because they don't know the difference between a bishop and a
queen.

Elijah was suicidal, Isaiah preached naked, Job was bankrupt, John the Baptist ran around

From a letter to the editor:

"The actions taken by the New Hampshire Episcopalians (INDUCTING A GAY
BISHOP) are an affront to Christians everywhere. I am just thankful
that the church's founder, Henry VIII, and his wife Catherine of Aragon,
and his wife Anne Boleyn, and his wife Jane Seymour, and his wife Anne
of Cleves, and his wife Katherine Howard, and his wife Catherine Parr
are no longer here to suffer through this assault on traditional
Christian marriages."
