The end of this issue (Uncanny X-Men 227) always bugged me. Its the
very end of Fall of the Mutants and the godess Roma brings all of the
X-Men back from the dead and gives them a chance at a new life. One of
her gifts to them was the ability to not be detected by video/audio
equipment. I know this kept up for several years and was even
mentioned in the Havok/Wolverine mini-series Meltdown. They were able
to modify their own equipment to see each other.
Then all of a sudden, everyone could see them around the time of
Extenction Agenda. My question is this: Is it ever officially
determined how people could all of a sudden see the X-Men on video and
hear them over audio transmissions?
Also, in this issue, Roma gives the X-Men the Siege Perilous, which
they can go through to reset their lives (several of them ended up
going through it.) Is the Siege Perilous an item distinct to the
Marvel Universe, or is it an item that's referenced from classic
literature?
Thanks!

Officially, no.
However, around the same time as their fading, over in Excalibur,
Otherworld and Roma were involved in some major problems which *could*
have necessitated the need for the spell to be reversed
Alternatively, it stopped around Adjectiveless issue 3 when CC left
and took the invisibility with him...

While I don't think it was stated, I think those that went through the
Seige Perilous (sp?) and were "remade" - possibly could have broken
the spell. Of couse Wolvie, Storm and Longshot did not go through,
so... who knows. (other then as stated, CC leaving and the whole
matter being dropped)

Except even after they went through the Siege Perilous, they still couldn't be
seen. The destruction of the lighthouse and damage to Otherworld that was done
in Excalibur seems like the best theory.
And to pick a nit: The first time they were seen on camera was X-Men (v2) #1,
shortly before Claremont left. With just a little jumbling, it is possible to
fit the events in Excalibur into the chronology.

The Siege Perilous is from Arthurian Legend. It was a seat at the
Round Table that only the Grail Knight could sit in. Anyone else who
sat it would suffer a terrible fate. Ultimately the Siege Perilous was
claimed by Sir Galahad.
In Marvel Comics, the original SIege Perilous was a circle of stones
in which Brian Braddock was asked by Merlin to choose between the
Sword of Might and the Amulet of Right. He chose the Amulet and became
Captain Brit ian.
Honestly, what this or Claremont's magic doorway has to do with the SP
from Arthurian legend is beyond me.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Uncanny X-Men 227 |

Was it specifically named in the original stories, or later? If the former,
then it's Claremont's idea.

If he used it originally when he wrote Captain Britain, maybe he has a link
between the two in mind, tying somehow into the myth.

Claremont created that version, as well. It appeared in the first Captain
Britain series, issues #1-2.

There is a similarity. They all judge people on a certain level.
