DS9: Unity, by S D Perry. 2003, 303 pages.
There has been a series of books continuing the saga of Deep Space Nine,
including Avatar, Abyss, the four Mission Gamma books, and Rising Son as
well as others, but this book finally brings all the threads of those
tales to a close!
I thought this book was very good, well written and tying up a complex
plot effectively. The main focus was on the parasites which first
appeared in Next Generation, but various relationships from the previous
tales are carried further (including some unlikely ones).
The front cover has a big portrait of Benjamin Sisko, and a figure of
Kira Nerys. Sisko is barely in the book, and the story is an ensemble
piece with nobody really hogging the spotlight. Lots of people from the
past are brought back for the grand finale.
Once again, the book would probably have no interest to anyone not
familiar with the show, and it helps to have read most of the books
listed above. Other books listed at the back are A Stitch in Time, the
Lives of Dax, Section 31: Abyss, Gateways and The Left Hand of darkness,
but it is probably not necessary to have read them, worthy works though
they may be.
And we are promised that the story will go on!
