I had posted a request earlier about the Sales Ranking numbers
assigned by Amazon.com to see if anyone knew anything about it. I got
no response, so I presume it is as much a mystery to others as it is
to me. I set out to learn more, and what it meant to me regarding
sales of my book on at least that market place. My ranking has been
at a dismal 1.2-1.3 million. It has floated around this rarified
atmosphere, jumping up and down a few thousand a day, but mostly
trending higher and higher. Finally, today, I purchased one of my
books from A1Books to see what the impact would be. My ranking number
droped from 1.303 million, down to about 63 thousand within 2 hours of
placing my order. I think it is safe to say, that if your ranking is
in the millions, you are not selling books. While this is sad news to
me, since I seem destined to be up there in orbit, it is useful to
know since I have an Excel program that grabs the number once per hour
and plots it to a chart. At least in the future, I will know when a
book has sold.
