Captain Britain and MI:13 #2 - "The Guns of Avalon, Part Two" (Writer:
Paul Cornell, Penciler: Leonard Kirk,
Inker: Jesse Delperdang, Colorist:
Brian
Reber)
The Skrulls have invaded Avalon, intend on seizing or destroying
elements of Britain's collective unconscious. MI13 joins the fight
against them.
It's a good issue, although perhaps not as strong as last one,
mainly because it's very fast paced and full of action, which,
while it's fun, always leaves me a little unsatisfied. Still, I'm
liking the new character Faiza so far, and I do think I'd like to
see what the book turns out to be like when they're not facing
an all-out invasion.
My Pick of the Week again.

newuniversal: shockfront #2 - "Breaks" (Writer: Warren Ellis,
Penciler: Steve Kurth, Inker: Andrew
Hennessy, Colorist: Chris Chuckry)
Jack Magniconte's accidental killing of another football player
on live television gets wider attention... from the media, from
Voigt's organization, and from Ken Connell... and it seems he
may not be the only new paranormal out there.
With this issue there's some suggestion that Ellis is doing a
little more than a straight-up reboot of the New Universe, even
an alternate universe version, as a character originally seen in
DP7 debuts, in a decidedly different context and with, so far,
no connection to the original except in name and general
appearance. There are also a few oblique references to the
Marvel Universe, as some of the characters from there seem to
exist in this world too, and there are odd connections with it.
It could just be Ellis playing around and having fun with inside
joke references to the reader, but I'm getting the feeling
something bigger is being planned here.
However, it does seem to be suffering a bit from being a middle
part of an Ellis story, in that only one thing of dramatic
import happens, and most of the rest are teases for upcoming
plotlines, and people reacting to or learning of some of the
things we saw last week. As such it's not quite as exciting as
last issue.

Well, that's it for this week folks. Next week, according to the
shipping list, there's just one book. That's X-Factor #32.
See you next time...
