Hoever, remakes of classic films and film versions of TV sitcoms [1]
are AFAIK uniformly awful.

1. "The Fugitive" OTOH, was quite fun.

THe first Brady Bunch movie was quite good (I haven't seen the second one).
The second Addams Family movie was good (supposedly the first one was
as well though I never saw it).

Some think the recent remake of that Adam West 60s sitcom is better than
the original..

I give you both Addams Family movies as counterexamples. I think the
second was even better than the first, but the first I found to be quite
good.

OK, that's true. Still, exceptions are few and far between.

One of the remakes of FREAKY FRIDAY was considerably better than the
original, as was the remake of THE PARENT TRAP.

The remake of THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR was an improvement, too.

I think we're stretching the meaning of "classic".

And I enjoyed that recent "Italian Job" more than I did the Michael
Caine version. Still, see my first comment.

Anyway, it's a good thing no one will ever have the chutzpah to remake
"The Manchurian Candidate". Or "Sleuth".

He must be referring to the one where George Clooney and Chris
O'Donnell play West and Ward.

And is still wrong...

Is it a coincidence that Ward played the ward?

In the former case, perhaps. In the latter, I don't think so. It's
just a different demographic that considered it so...

Oh, I don't know. Maybe they could Michael Caine to play the other role!

Hmm. Maybe they should have gotten Sela Ward for the remake.

That's an idea. Though Olivier is kind of old and dead to play Milo.

We'll get some other Brit with a long face and good cheekbones.

It'll be like having a young Olivier!
