Upper Egypt
Historical Outline and Descriptive Guide to Ancient Sites
by Jill Kamil
A great book for someone interested in upper Egypt, it is divided into three
parts, the Pharaonic Period (3100 – 332 BC), the Graeco-Roman Period (332
BC – AD 385), and the Early Christian Period. The sites are given historical
perspective by placing them chronologically, which is the peak period of
each site. This enables the book to serve its main purpose as a practical
guide to the monuments, and at the same time be read as a history through
the historical overlap in the background to each chapter. Photographs by
Carolyn Brown and Peter Clayton. Plans and Maps by Elizabeth Rodenbeck and
Hassan Ibrahim.
Longman, Inc., London & New York, 1986, second printing, 227 pages, trade
