I hope to have some time tomorrow afternoon to do some booking in San
Francisco. What's your must-visit bookstore in San Francisco?

(I'm more interested in nonfiction than fiction, more scholarly than
popular, more antiquarian than modern.)

Perfect suggestion, John. It's actually been 15 years since I've been
booking in Berkeley--so it was not on the tip of my brain.

In any event, I hoofed it over to the East Bay, got to spend an hour
browsing Serendipity, and had an outstanding conversation with Peter
Howard.

I went on to a Thai restaurant recommended by Peter and then to
Cartesian, Shakespeare & Co., Moe's, and Cody's. Moe's was as great as
I remember it.

Many thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks. I'll have to catch them on my next trip.
