As originally described, the high concept behind The End books was
that were the last story of the characters presented. So far we've had
Hulk: The End and Punisher: The End, which fairly well tackled that
theme; Marvel Universe: The End, which spun off a new series, so
clearly did not tackle the theme well; Wolverine: The End, which was
just a fairly generic future Wolverine story that didn't resolve
anything and was thus a total failure, conceptually; and X-Men: The
End, which is a sprawling mess of a story so far (and Claremont has
said that it will impact events in Uncanny, so he's actually managed
to take the "last X-Men story" and hang more of his famous dangling
plotlines from it).
As a concept for a group of stories, The End has been pretty weak.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
