aim to publish a sizeable number of stuff (prose, poetry, photographs, music,

Might help if you gave some indication of compensation, since your
webpage isn't up yet.

My biggest issue is with bookreviews. He requires us to send a picture of
the book cover. Don't know about you,b ut I have tghis SCREAMING inthe back
of my head "COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT".
Isn't the book cover artwork copyright?

So I won't be doing business with them, if they require that...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

A book cover is covered by copyright. However, they are also promotional
in nature. It is common practice to include a copy of a book cover with
a book review. While this may technically be a copyright infringement it
is unlikely for a publisher to object (and file suit) against a
legitimate review. Even a bad review has publicity merit to a publisher
(assuming that the review is reasonably fair). In one case a
self-publisher was given a poor review in the San Francisco Chronicle
Sunday Book Review section. The mere fact that the book was reviewed by
the S.F. Chronicle as used to secure a considerable number of additional
reviews (other publications had the attitude that if the book was
"worthy" of the S.F. Chronicle, then they ought to review it as well).
Fortunately the other reviews were more sympathetic.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
