I don't see a difference between taping the show and buying the show from
someone that taped it or bought it...

not that there is anything wrong with it but like you said it is ilegal to
tape the show or simply burn it, because you aren't paying for it like
everyone else that bought it, but then again it is my opinion as I just
simply buy the season used on e-bay and that's the end of it.

Let me guess... you're also the type that doesn't see anything wrong
with stealing songs from p2p services either?

You have the right to make a backup of something like a VHS or DVD. But
NOBODY has the right to sell that backup, nor keep that backup if they
sell the originals.

The law actually states that each person can make a personal backup copy
for private use.

This means I can tape one copy of any television show that enters into
my house (or software I own, or CD I own, etc.) for my own personal use.

The law puts restrictions on personal backup copies that I make, as well
as any copyrighted products I purchase.

I am not allowed to make a copy of my copy for someone else, even my mother.

I am not allowed to have a "public viewing or listening". Which means
if I own a bar, and I want to play CDs that I own in the bar for me to
listen to as I work and customers can hear it, I'm in big trouble
because it's illegal (several bars in Pittsburgh got busted for this).

So it goes FAR beyond SELLING copies of the shows I taped off of TV (or
purchased at Amazon). I can't even GIVE you a copy without risking a
$150,000 fine (yes, $150,000 PER INCIDENT).

In order to prove you broke copyright laws they must prove three things:

1.) They own the copyright in questions.
2.) You did not have permission to create the copies.
3.) Either you benefited or they were hurt financially.

The first two are obvious, but when it comes to giving them away the
third is much harder to prove. Something they never talk about when they
bust file sharers. Some record companies realize that in order for

So if they were willing to bribe DJs to get people to hear their music
for free, why are they suddenly so adverse to the concept? Cause the
