Well, I was wandering around the internet looking for rhemuth.com
(didn't find it) but I did find two genealogy sites, one of which was
claiming that Kenneth Morgan is not Alaric's father (guess this person
hasn't read ITKS or CM). And both that site and another keep picking
the McLain family apart. One person was taking the Codex apart page by
page and pointing out errors. Now, I don't have the codex, so I can't
check all this stuff. But to my point is the following -- I am a
professional genealogist. People get their family lines and stories
confused all the time. This shouldn't be such a big deal.. Secondly,
the McLain tree may have been doctored over the years to protect
various Deryni and Vera herself.

I guess it just saddens me a little that instead of doing something
positive, these people have to tear apart Katherine's work. I don't
know if she has a written genealogy to work from, or if maybe
something slipped by her and her editor.

Katrina,

For many years before writing ITKS, Katherine DID hint to her readers
that Donal Haldane would turn out to be Alaric's father. So the rumor
is one of her own creation rather than the invention of an inattentive
reader. In the writing of ITKS though, she liked Kenneth too much to
have him get cuckolded by the king, and discovered a way to make sure
Alaric was Kenneth's trueborn son.

If the genealogy website you found is the one I'm thinking of, it was
created by a fan, Rebecca Davis, before ITKS was written but after
Codex was originally released. There were also some inconsistencies in
the McLain family line that needed to be worked out. If you did find
Rebecca's site, I don't think it was a desire to pick apart
Katherine's work in a negative way, but to explore it in depth, the
way only a real fan would. Rebecca is not around so much now, as she
got a serious case of "Real Life." but earlier, she was quite active
on this board, and I know she's a sincere fan.
