I saw a trailer on the TV tonight. Sadly, I was so awestruck that I didn't
take in the time, day, channel or programme title!
It purports that there is a young boy in Russia who was carrying his unborn
twin inside him - much to his mum's surprise!
Whether this is fact, recent urban myth or an outright hoax, I have no idea
- but if it is true, it's just toooo wacky.
I may tune in my radio tonight to see if I can pick up any music programs
being broadcast from a satelite.

Linda Fox is fantastic.
I was thninking specifically about a bloke sitting in the satellite with
a bunch of records. But I guess the obvious interpretation slipped my
mind.
Arthur C. Clarke (ACC) might have forecast the use of satelites in a cold
clinical business and commerce type of way, but it took PKD to foresee
Digital radio playing hours of mush.
That's one of the things I like about PKD. Futuristic technologies are
not being predicted in the usual SF manner of "What would be a big leap
forward?" but in the kind of reverse-engineered human psychology way of
"what dumb things can we use technology for?" - like mobile video phones,
for example: There may be a really beneficial use for the technology, but
oh no - we humans have to use it to send an embarrassing photo taken at a
party to a mate down the pub.
The developed world in the 21st century has turned out to be part-PKD,
part-Orwell with a little ACC thrown in: When most people would prefer to
think that we're going straight down the ACC path.

Don't forget Ray Bradbury. I forget exactly when he penned "Farenheit 451" ,
(Early-mid '50s IIRC ) but he accurately
predicted 24 hr ATMs, and giant screen
interactive t.v., live t.v "America's most wanted" style manhunts, and over-the
-top
political correctness run amok.
Does anyone know of any S.F. that accurately predicted the rise of the
internet? ( besides William Gibson, who came pretty close...but then he WAS
writing in the early '80s)
If I were a writer, I'd like to do a story about a time traveler who goes back
to the early fifties sci-fi cons to fuck with peoples heads...
(Drunken Swagger) "Moon colonies? In the
SEVENTIES? (Derisive laughter)....
"Atomic war? with the SOVIETS? in the year 2000? yeah...RIGHT! ( muttering
stage whisper) "Morons...don't you know the CCCP collapses in '92?..."
And so on. It's just an Idea, but something I think a real writer could have
fun with.

So there is at least ONE person in this world using the camera?

It is true, and it's happened before. It's a rare medical condition called
foetus in foetu.
Here's links explaining the phenomena:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/print/0,3858,4713654-111392,00.html" target="_blank">http://www.guardian.co.uk/print/0,3858,4713654-111392,00.html</a>
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/links/doi/10.1046/j.1469-0705.2001.00452.x/abs/" target="_blank">http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/links/doi/10.1046/j.1469-0705.2001.00452.x/abs/</a>
Here's a link of other such examples:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=19990518073900.25206.00001977%40ng140.aol.com" target="_blank">http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=19990518073900.25206.00001977%40n...0.aol.c</a>
I don't know how long this condition has been classified, but a search
for "foetus in foetu" brings up a quote from James Joyce's Ulysses,
which contains the phrase:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.web-books.com/Classics/Fiction/Other/Joyce_Ulysses/Ulysses_14_9.htm" target="_blank">http://www.web-books.com/Classics/Fiction/Other/Joyce_Ulysses/Ulysses_14_9.htm</a>
So I'm guessing PKD didn't "predict" this condition, but rather knew
about it and used it as the basis for one of his characters, exaggerating
the condition to create a fully formed foetus still alive and psychically
linked to it's twin.

I hadn't heard of this before - we've had more trailers here for the
program - channel 4 is building it up. I got the impression from one of
the trailers and my original search on the net that it's not unique.
I concur - I think PKD probably just dramatised it a bit more by having
the foetus talking to the "carrier".

There is a PK Dick short story about just that. He re-imagines SF
writers as prophets and time travelers from the future do go back to a
SciFi Con in order to kidnap one of them. I cant remember the title
offhand, but it's in the Collected Short stories of PK Dick.
