I know that some of you are audio book lovers. After a book is
released, about how long before it is release in audio books? Thanks.

In this case, concurrently. It's available now on both CD and cassette.
Pricey, though, so I'd recommend shopping around. I got a copy on eBay for
under $40 compared to $75 retail.

Does it seem to you that the audio version is cursed?

First King was reading them and then he got macular degeneration and had to stop.

Then Frank Muller did his versions and he gets in a motorcycle accident...

Let's hope that whoever did book 5 stays strong enough for 6 and 7. ;^)

I wouldn't blame macular generation on King's decision not to read
the Dark Tower books -- he read Bag of Bones, Hearts in Atlantis and
On Writing after that.

And I for one *really* wish that he would read the last one. It would
be only fitting.

I for one am glad it's not him reading the book. His shrill, nasal
voice really doesn't stand up to the many excellent, professional
voice actors out there. I'm listening to DT5 now (two cd's in- yeah,
yeah, I got a good deal so I thought why not...) and George Guidall is
doing a fantastic job telling the story.

It is now that I really, really miss Muller. I heard Guidall's rendition of
The Gunslinger and didn't care for it at all. He sounds like someone's
great-grandfather telling the story with his tremulous voice.

Yes, I can heartily agree with that. HOWEVER, the author has to have a
good voice and preferrably a lot of voice training as well. Some
authors can pull it off, I guess, but I've yet to hear any. Anyway,
good actors can easily read the emotion the author tries to convey.
Guidall rendition of the different characters in DT5 actually sound
like different characters (his "computer" voice when doing the robot
is quite eerie). I very much doubt King could have done this better.

In essence: King is good at writing. Let him do what he does best.
Guidall is great as a narrator and actor. Let him do what he does
best. I bet Guidall couldn't have written DT5, and nor would he
probably want to.
