I found that the story was a much better and indepth look at the
subject touched upon in the Third Empire book.
Corrupt and unpois religion secular tensions and rights of man. I am

quite right - although don't expect that many sequels or that quickly
either - this is for TOR and not for BAEN - and David already has multiple
committments with BAEN. Smile

That "contain the situation" sure worked, didn't it?

How is the group being "contained" going to know if they are going to be
honored, if somewhat involuntary, guests, or slaves, or dinner? Of
course they are going to resist. Only an arrogant idiot is going to
think otherwise.

Both, and more.

Most Weber books are published by Baen. This one was published by Tor,
and recently, so it was not one he wrote long ago and just came out in
reprint.

David Weber has many incomplete series outstanding, and did not think he
would have time, energy, or inclination to start another.

Then again, he may need to rest his brain, reorganize, and get a fresh
start.

According to people that have been at DW signings for this book, OAR is part
of a series idea that he pushed with Jim Baen (along with others including
HH). Also, DW has commented on Baen's Bar that he needed a vacation from HH
and for him the other books (including this one) are his idea of a vacation.

Offbreed, are you and David talking about Off Armageddon Reef, or Hell's
Gate?

Please, not OAR spoilers however, I've only just started it and am only
about 20% into it.

I've only just started "Off Armageddon Reef" and am only about 20% into it.
However, while it seems to have a rather similar high level concept as part
of "Heirs of Empire", it is quite interesting.

On a technical note, I do wish that the publisher hadn't used such a
smallish
font. Even wearing my new glasses, it's a little uncomfortable to read.
(And,
yes, the prescription on my glasses is just fine.)

Last night when I read the section where "Merlin" arrived in the nick of
time to save the Earl
from his traitorous son-in-law, the first thing that came to mind when
Merlin came crashing thru
the sky light window was all those Batman movies where Batman crashes thru a
skylight to the
rescue. Of course, Batman didn't have a katana, or leave 15 men bleeding on
the floor. Wink
