Telical Books of Seattle published "The Exhaustion of the Interaction
of Words: Brainstorming with ParaMind Brainstorming Software" on
November 27, 2007.
For over 700 years, philosophers have tried to come up with ways to
create ideas automatically. Early philosophers drew graphs and made
charts when trying to create new ideas. One modern writer has tried to
do this using the computer instead of paper and pen. Since the
mid-1980's, Robert Pearson has been writing on this idea, formulated
by his simple expression, "the exhaustion of the interactions of
words." In 1992, he started ParaMind Brainstorming Software and
started selling software programs that came up with new ideas based on
the theory.
This program belongs to a not well-known class of software called
"brainstorming software." The ParaMind program allows one to work
with language outside of the usual limitations in thinking. It does
this by copying and changing the user's sentence thousands of times in
order to facilitate new ideas. In his book, Pearson describes the
idea as a humanitarian problem solving technique rather than a way to
glorify technology.
The book has a discussion of the brainstorming theory along several
pages of examples of how the program creates texts based on the user's
sentences. By seeing several pages of examples, readers are then left
with their own concept of how the theory works,. From there, readers
can imagine where other areas of exploration with the technique might
lead them. It may even help their problem solving skills without any
use of the software. The software program illustrates the theory so it
is also described in detail.
