which book was this?

I remember reading a novel by him years ago. It was about this genius
boy who later got blind. He has this connection with a little girl who
was conceived through rape. Her father was this sociopathic serial
killer (Bartholomew?). The novel began before they were born, and
ended basically with them married having extraordinary children.
