A friend of mine is looking for a list of books that are
about golems or involve golems. I think variations on the
original legend would be especially helpful. Can anyone
point me towards some appropriate books?

Pete

If you want to promote the "Jewish folk history" angle, Barbara Rogasky
did a version for Trina Schart Hyman's illustrations--
Otherwise, the Isaac Bashevis Singer version is considered the "standard".

There's "Golem", by David Wisniewski. The story is a retelling
of the legend, and at the end there's a further page of text
about the legend. The artwork is stunning.

Michael, it's a little disturbing, though

If variation is what you want, Terry Pratchett's _Feet of Clay_ should
fit the bill. Anything Pratchett touches just naturally winds up about
three knight's moves over from the original.

Warning: It should be noted that Terry Pratchett, although widely
beloved by the more imaginative twelve-and-ups of my acquaintance, is not
a children's author and would not be appropriate for eight-year-olds.

Thanks, folks! I've passed along your suggestions to my friend
and she's very grateful to all of you.
