Okay imgine AOL-Time Warner or whatever they are right now decides to
get out of the comics business and sells DC. Marvel picks up their
competition. They realize that neither the MU or DCU are big enough
for all those heroes and villains, so they keep running two distinct
universes. But they decide some characters might fit better in the
other universe. So in Crisis on Two Earths a major villain wipes out
reality, but things are put back together with some heroes originating
in the opposite reality.

Who makes the switch?

Trade Bendis for Busiek. Neither is a good fit for their present universe.

This almost sorta happened, according to some pencillers who worked at
Marvel at the time, it was around the 60's or so, after some nutter
claimed comics were a bad influence on America's youth. The deal went
sour when DC would not sell Batman and Superman.

But character wise, Batman, provided he was written by a good writer
would work with Marvel, it might even add some drama to the MU, with
two multi-Billionaires running two major companies in the same
universe, vieing for opposing contracts. Tho if this happened,
Punisher would spend the majority if his series in prison, since Batman
would keep capturing him;).

The Silver Surfer could work in the DCU, since alot of Jack Kirby
creations exist in the DCU, and one more wouldn't harm the place. Plus
he would most certainly be percieved as a deity, IMO, by the citizens,
since he had stronger powers than Superman, had no weaknesses, and
relied merely on the power cosmic to live, since travelling about in
space, he would not need oxygen. And I cannot help but feel that he
would be better written by some of DC's writers, or at least better
respected. Plus he would be another "Alien" for Lex Luthor to hate.

And, for pretty much the same examples given for Batman, Iron Man.

Well, he did state the MU and DCU, so that leaves out Vertigo and
Wildstorm, and Max etc.

I don't think the OP meant to involve the Ultimate universe, Wildstorm, or
any other universes but the Marvel and DC universes proper.

I could be wrong, though.

I read - I believe this appeared in another thread on this Board- that
in the late 1970's DC was considering packing it as far as publishing
their own comics, and making an offer to Marvel to publish and
distribute their comics !!

I'd dare to re-frame the opening question- What if AOL/Time-Warner
decided to gobble up Marvel??

Best,

DAO

Didn't this also almost happen in the '80's when DC were on the brink
of bankcruptcy, before Warner bought them?

Isn't Ultimate FF going to be doing a story where they come into the
mainstream MU?

If that happened I figure DD would fit into the DCU, especially
Gotham.

Isn't Gotham already overcrowded with costumed vigilantes? We don't need to
import more of them from other universes....

I did once read a Nightwing/Daredevil crossover fanfic that had fun with the
notion of a cop and a lawyer who were both acrobatic crimefighters....
