Archived from groups: rec>arts>comics>marvel>xbooks (more info?)

I haven't bought a comic book in over a year. Since July of 2006.
Mainly, I haven't been able to afford them, even though I was down to
just the X-books at that point. I even sold off thousands of them
last fall and this past spring. Also, the direction they were all
going just didn't appeal to me. I've been tempted to pick up the
hardcovers of The Rise and Fall and Supernovas, but so far, I haven't
been motivated to. I've even thought of switching over my buying
habits to just buying the TPB's and foregoing the weekly trip to pick
up the individual issues. But I haven't been able to afford that yet,
either. I don't know if I'll ever buy another comic again. And I've
been seriously tempted to sell off the rest of my collection, which is
only down to the core X-books. Yet, I still check out and
occasionally reply to this newsgroup. And I dutifully read the X-
Axis, Unreachable Star, and Lying In The Gutters every week.

Why?

I think you should start a seminar on how to wean people off comic books.

If you are continuing to read the boards perhaps you still retain a love
of comics.

You are sensible in budgeting for more important things than comics.
When you become more solvent you will have the knowledge imparted by the
board members to direct you to trade paperbacks that are interesting.
You can certainly gain some insight to avoid titles which would waste
your money.

For the economically-minded, trade paperbacks can be scanned at your
local Barnes and Noble (or somesuch) while you pick up a cup of coffee.
