That's stretching things. What would really be interesting is
explaining why Juggernaut, who has wanted to kill Xavier since the
mid-60's, suddenly cares whether or not the Hulk kills him.

No...it would be interesting Hulk actually did kill Xavier...it's
about time someone did.

Yeah, but then Lilandra would just come along and clone him again.
Xavier should have disappeared from these books a long time ago. He's
rarely written well enough to bother having around.

I was just browsing through old X-Force issues around the time when
Boomer was trying to become friends with Sabretooth. She brought up the
whole thing about Xavier forgiving Magneto multiple times. Xavier said
she's made his point for her. Hasn't Xavier forgiven Magneto at least
twice since then? I hate to say it, but you just can't trust Xavier.
He makes really bad decisions. He can only work with the X-Men so long
as he is not in charge. The school belongs to Scott now. It should
stay that way.

To be honest, Scott should say "It was nice of you to visit, now go work
in a lab with Sinister where you belong. Neither of you have problems
doing absolutely anything to achieve your goals, and you both want to
save mutantkind. Have fun."

I know, we're in the minority of disliking Xavier. I haven't like the
guy since the early 90's when we started to find out what kind of person
he really was. I realize that these things were retcons but his
personality reflected them. Xavier is being written better than he has
been in a long time but I doubt it will stick. It's inevitable that
there's another dark secret waiting around the corner to be revealed.

I agree completely...it's time for the X-Men to move beyond
Xavier...permanently...it just makes sense...and there's really
nothing interesting left to do with Xavier at this point but continue
to tear him down...which only makes the motivations of the X-Men
murky...hell, as it is, given the dark secrets that keep popping up, I
can't believe any of the X-Men want anything to do with Xavier
anymore.

And the result was what?

The result is what we have now. After many years of indifference
(there hasn't really been an axe to grind between them in a long, long
time), he and Chuck buried all hatchets (in Austen's run), and Cain is
working with the X-Teams (first with the X-Men, now with Excalibur).

Even if Prof. X and Cain stopped being enemies it doesn't mean they're
all of a sudden that close. I imagine that if Cain were there he's do
something but the idea of him making a special deal with Cytorrak to get
to the Academy is silly.

Pretending to be dead in the 50s? X-Men/Micronauts in the 80s? I don't see
the Xavier is a jerk stories being that much of a retcon.

You forgot his return in the 120s when he acted as though the X-Men were
incompetent children even though they'd been operating without him in
his absence.

Still, none of that compares to the stuff we've seen since. Those were
cases of being a jerk. He's moved into far worse territory.

Unfortunately the same thing could be said of a lot of Marvel characters.
