Post subject: What current mystery, suspense, crime writers should I also read?
Archived from groups: alt>books>mysteries, others (more info?)

Dear reader,

I really like to read the following writers:

Harlan Coben
Patricia Cornwell
Karin Slaughter
Mary Higgins Clark
Phillip Margolin
Sidney Sheldon
Nicci French
PJ Tracy
Kathy Reichs
Minette Walthers

I read in English although I'm Dutch. What writers are out there that I'd
might like?
Especially interested in new writers that I might have missed.
Also are there any great websites about these kind of books and writers?

Thanks in advance for all info!

Greetings from The Netherlands,

Lara.

Hi Lara,

I trust you have read Baantjer. I enjoy his books but they are hard to find in
the USA.

You might consider:

Walter Mosley
Tess Gerritsen
David Liss

Might try Lisa Jackson, good but "big" mystery books...last I read was 480+
pages. Penny

If you like Cornwell and Reichs, then you should definitely look up
Peter May.

You can get his series of thrillers (which are set in China) in English
or Dutch. He even has Dutch pages on his website. Though since you
read in English, you hardly need that! But it might be interesting,
anyway. His website is <http://www.petermay.co.uk> (I only mention
that because it's ".co.uk" and not ".com").

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Michael Dibdin's superbly dark Aurelio
Zen series . . . or am I somehow in the wrong genre?

Donna Leon's Comissario Brunetti series, set in Venice, is not quite as
great as Dibdin's, but still good.

Hi MOvieFreak, I love Mary Higgins Clark and Sidney Sheldon. Sidney
Sheldon was the first suspense writer I started to read and have read
every one of his books. The other author you should try is Nelson
Demille. Out of the other authors you listed are they as good as Clark
and Sheldon? If so I may give them a try.

I'll second that Sue.

I hadn't read Hill prior to about 2 weeks ago - and I realize now what
I've been missing.

Wonderful writer who can really turn a beautiful phrase.

The great thing is that I now have the whole Daziel/Pascoe set to look
forward to!
