I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself
I am a fan of Anne Rice and thought I might like to get back into
talking about her books. I am a veteran of the old #AnneRice Channel
on IRC in case anyone remembers me.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi.

Gidday Lasher,
Not sure if you remember me, I was Blakwidow, then CallaLilly, now Laudenum.
I used to live in Frankston Victoria, but am now in Toowoomba Qld.
I've been addicted to Anne Rice since I read The Witching Hour. Her writing
and the family saga of the Mayfairs totally drew me in.
From there I started on Interview with a Vampire (which I found dry and
dull), bt persevered and fell in love with The Vampire Lestat.
I've just finished reading Blackwood Farm and the Blood Chronicles - finding
the former just as fascinating as when she wrote The Witching Hour and the
latter highly amusing.
Do stay and help me force more people to actually make observations
regarding all of Anne's work, including her S&M novels written under the
psuednomyn of A N Roqueclaire (not sure on spelling) and Anne Rampling.
Hope to see you again,
Tamara (laudenum/CallaLilly/Blakwidow)<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Hello All |

Lasher -
You'll notice that there often aren't a lot of responses on this group, but
every now and then some interesting conversations get sparked up. I think
there are a lot of lurkers (including myself, half the time) but there are
some strong opinions, when you get them going. Welcome!!

I rather enjoyed the Sleeping Beauty series myself. Such a different writing
for Anne Rice. I have to say other than that the vampire series about Lestat is
my fav. I hope to hear from many of you about what you enjoy >> Stay informed about: Hello All |

Did you enjoy them?
I found it difficult to get through just one of her alternate persona's -
Exit to Eden, even after it was made into a movie with Paul Mecurio.
I found the B&D aspect too over the top to complete.
What are your views on Anne Rice's erotic writings?

Yes I found the Sleeping Beauty series an eye-opener....I have not finished
the Vampire series yet....and when I have I will probably start again at
the beginning.
Servant of the Bones is good too.

Of course a lot of Anne Rice's writing is about forbidden pleasures...not
just the overtly BDSM novels....

Servant of the Bones is brilliant.
Taught me so much about the Hasidam (spelling???) and Jewish faith, which I
then got my friend Tamara to read (and her mum) to see how well a very well
known Catholic captured the Jewish faith... and they were incredibly
impressed (even Tam who HATES AR's writing style).
I also fell in love with the research she did about Castrato singers and
that period she set "Cry to Heaven" in.
Really, you can't find too many faults in her research.

Very true.
Most characters in her books are incredibly sensual beings, taking physical
and mental pleasures in many forms. She touches on the taboos of incest (in
much better ways, imo, than Virginia Andrews ever did), homosexuality,
bisexuality, hetrosexuality, bdsm, dominate, subs... in subtle and not so
subtle forms.
She covers death beautifully and I WANT to believe her idea of vampires and
witches more than many other writers. I want to believe it more than when I
read Dracula, or Nosferatu.
I love the way peoples powers grow with their ages and understanding of
their gifts.
I love her acceptance of people and their pedicallos and that she imbues
them with such life.
I love the egotistical way she presents LeStat.

Guess I will say hello too
I have read all of Anne Rice's books, started years ago. I just started
Blood Canticle and am looking forward to it!
I have read the Mayfair Witches series and the Vampire Chronicles a few
times now. I read the Sleeping Beauty trilogy several years ago and would
like to actually read it again. Anne does have a lush writing style, and I
do sometimes get tired of the long and drawn out description she is so well
known for, but overall I love her writing. She is a good story teller and
that is the crux of any good book.
I was very sorry to hear about her husband's death. I see also that Blood
Canticle is dedicated to him. I recently visited her web site and got caught
up on all the latest. I can't believe she is leaving her home! I always
thought she loved that house but I guess she must feel it's time to move on.
It happens.
Here's wishing everyone out there a good day!

I agree with Tamara.
I was particularly impressed with Anne Rice's acceptance of bisexuality
which is explicit in Sleeping Beauty and implicit everwhere else >> Stay informed about: Hello All |

When you love someone as much as Anne loved Stan, I can fully understand her
not wanting to live in the home they made together. The memories would be
too sad.
They lost their daughter, she lost her husband, she just has herself and
Christopher now.
yes, it's time to move on.
