Well, I'm here....
I just discovered the Deryni chronicles, despite being in my mid-30's.
Just finished Deryni Rising, and I think I'm hooked...Dernyi Checkmate
is on it's way from Amazon as we speak...
So, is there anything special I should know?
BTW, my nic is pronounced je-wa-he, and it has nothing to do with
religion (just a combo of my first, middle, & last names, with a typo).

Hi Jeff,
Welcome. =o) We're a pretty friendly bunch, and it's always nice to
hear from a new fan. You should know that you've got a lot of happy
hours of reading ahead of you, for one thing.
If you haven't already discovered it, there is a Katherine Kurtz
Website at www.deryni.net.
After the first Kelson trilogy, you can either go on to read the second
Kelson trilogy or the first Camber trilogy. (At Deryni.net you'll find
the full Kurtz oevre and recommendations on reading order for the
books.)
The next new book due out is Childe Morgan, this coming December. It's
the second volume of the Childe Morgan trilogy, dealing with Alaric
Morgan's childhood and youth. I think it might be very confusing for
you until you've read a few more of the Deryni books, though. =o)
Happy reading,

Boringly enough...a friend of mine recommended the books after finding
out I was re-reading The Wheel of Time. >> Stay informed about: Hello... |

just that you may wind up spending a lot more time reading than you
had planned on.
I stumbled into this little universe completely by serendipity... I was
at a yard sale and bought a couple of boxes of paperbacks and comics that
some young man was selling before he went off to college. I was planning
to put the stuff on eBay, as everything looked to be in pretty good shape.
Well, I had some time that evening, and all three volumes of the chronicles
of the Deryni were in the box, and so ...
Not everything I had bought that day made it to eBay.
Enjoy your reading.
Cheers

Bought the Science Fiction Book Club edition of The Chronicles of the Deryni
when it first came out (ca. 1980?). Currently rereading from the beginning,
and almost done with Deryni Checkmate.
I used to mostly lurk in this group a few years ago, but just came back when
I started rereading, as I thought I might at last be able to contribute to
discussions that require recall of details that I lacked in 1999 or
thereabouts.
I guess I will sign with the name of my character from my own, unwritten,
fanfic.

We we're moving from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada to London,
England. Upon my declaration that I was already bored (we had only just
been on the road to the Winnipeg airport for five minutes!) My mom whipped
the book she had been reading into the back seat and said; "Oh NO you're
not!" We'll after a two and a half hour flight to Toronto, a three hour
layover, and eight hour flight to Heathrow, I was hooked.
I read them through the first time in their chronological order, and I
recommend to anyone who picks them up to read them that way, simply because
when you read the Deryni chronicles for the first time after reading the
Camber series, you get a sense of how much was lost during the
backlash.....but my opinion is in the minority, alas!

I picked up a used copy of DR in August of 1985 in Tok, Alaska for 50
cents. I was on a scout trip that had gotten us to Fairbanks and
Denali National Park, and we were travelling back down the Al-Can
highway (at that time there were numerous long stretches -- up to 35
miles long each-- that were unpaved). So, to make a long story short,
I was bored and bought the book to have something to do and have been
hooked on KK's books ever since.

Same sort of thing - in my case, a damaged copy of Saint Camber was being
sold off along with a load of other old books by my local public library,
about 20 years ago. I bought it for maybe 20p, started reading and was
hooked thenceforth.

Hi Jeff:
Welcome to the forum. Oh you are gonna love the series and once you
start, there is no stopping until you read them all.
The Camber of Culdi trilogy blew me away. So is there anything special
you should know you ask? Yes, all of it! <g>
Happy reading!
