"It was about the deep of night,
And still was earth and sky,
when in the moonlight, dazzling bright,
three ghosts came riding by."

Only three on this site......?

Yes, yes, Walter de la Mare, you know it is from 'A Ballard of
Christmas'. And I've mentioned - yes, Ghosts. Well, actually, de la
Mare did. So he should receive any vitriolic posts you may wish....no,
no, don't go there!!!!

What about -

"For bloody was each hand, and dark
With death each orbless eye; -
It was three Traitors mute and stark
Came riding silently by."

You have no doubt read and fully comprehended de la Mare's "All
Hallows" - possibly one of the greatest tales of its type in the
English language?

So tell us about it - and its influence on Lovecraft....

Peter

"Odd restless child; its dark;
All wings are flown
But this one wizard's - Hark!
Stone clapped on stone!
Changeling and solitary,
Secret and sharp and small,
Flits he from tree to tree,
Calling on all."
