Thanks for the links! I saw the programme when it was first broadcast
and am amazed to discover it was made in 1983...

Yes, though his suicide attempt must've been around that time. I guess
he was either on an upswing when the film was made or he was covering
up.

I was wondering too. Not that it matters, but it would be interesting to
know whether this was before or after... I just watched the last part. It
was comforting watching it...
