I don't know about "these days," but Carl Sagan produced similar articles
(e.g. the ones in his book _Broca's Brain_). Stephen Jay Gould wrote
similar articles on various aspects of natural history and evolution,
although IMHO, his essays tended to be more about how smart Stephen Jay
Gould was than about their nominal subjects. If you like Asimov's
essays, you might also like Martin Gardner's old "Mathematical Games"
columns and his essays about pseudo-science.

"Contrariwise," continued Tweedledee, "if it was so, it might be, and
if it were so, it would be; but as it isn't, it ain't. That's logic."
