The sad thing was that, though the PKD story was one of
his worst, the plot device was a great idea and could have been
turned into a very good standard SF thriller.

And "Paycheck" is one you would have forgotten immediately
if you had read it.

I always thought "Paycheck" was humorous. Once the scoop grabs the
recept from whats-her-name's hand, I could just _hear_ a muted trumpet
going Wah, Wah, Waaaah.

Ah, so halucination or not? A clue planted by the filmmakers, perhaps?
Not convinced - think it's just overzealous screenwriting and an excuse
to use some FX.

Cinematic birth-squalls? I think you'll have to wait a while while I go
back to school and redo my English 'O'-level (me is a little foxed). Good
thing or bad thing - I'm not sure - just what is a squall?

My vote would go to Gilliam, Lynch or Cronenberg (spelling?) - I suppose
it depends how much you want your stomach to churn! I've said this all
before, but Hollywood clearly haven't read my posts.
I like the way Gilliam "thinks" as a director, and I haven't seen a
single Gilliam film that hasn't measured up yet.

Definitely Cronenberg, he's already a Dick fan. Did you spot the
"Perky Pat" take-away in Existenz?
Sadly, I doubt David Lynch would be interested in doing another film
adaptation of a science-fiction novel after his experiences on Dune...
Out of left-field, I would suggest that Terry Zwigoff (Ghost World)
would be another good choice to direct a film based on Phil's work.
Possibly one of the non-SF novels, like Confessions of a Crap Artist.

Minority Report is DIRECTLY opposed to the Phil's intention in the
original story. Which is why I hated it (and every other piece of
dreck from Spielberg that I have seen apart from CE3K).
