I remember when I was younger a teacher read our class a book that I
an trying to find the name of. All I can remember is that the book is
about a journey of theis guy, and he is wondering through a land that
ends up to be Washington DC in many years from now. I remember he was
refering to the monument of "Asher" I think, somehow I think you
figure out it is George Washingtons monument. Is this makeing sense
to anyone? I think it may have been a short story.

Could it have been "ASHING"?

If so the story is "The Place Of The Gods" by Stephen Vincent Benet

Another possibility is "The Weans" by Robert Nathan. The story is about
some archeologists who discover the Washington D.C. area about 5,000 years
from now, long after our current civilization has destroyed itself. Digging
through the remains, they determine that we called Washington the "Pound
Laundry". Similar humor applies to many of our present cultural artifacts.
The name refers to the term the archeologists determined we called
ourselves.

Enjoy

It's way way way off, but that also sounds a little bit like "Logan's Run,"
which I only mention because the movie is so much fun. - htd
