I stopped in the local Humane Society Thrift store where I found a
copy of 'Life Expectancy' and two copies of 'The Taking' for $1 each. If
anyone wants the duplicate for $1 & the postage, let me know.

All three are hardback and have the dust covers. They appear to be in
unread condition. I couldn't leave the duplicate there, where kids think
books are toys to drop & step on. Sad

The Taking is worth less than a dollar.

I've already received an E-mail wanting it. They said they already
had it in paperback, and if the postage wasn't too much, they wanted it
in hardback. It has a US 27 dollar price on it. I haven't read it yet,
and it may be a while till I can. Every other day something around here
breaks, and I can't keep up with the repair costs. Just this week my 22"
monitor died, my septic tank plugged up, and the spout on the working
shower & tub fell off. The other bathroom is completely useless, except
the sink. Sad

Don't read it. Fix the shower instead, it will be more exciting.

New problems, same idiot Nurse Cratchit. Last sunday I passed some
blood when I had to pee, and have been having trouble going. She starts
in, Is this a hospital? Does it look like a hospital to you? You have to
drive to the emergency room, we can't do the tests here! I told her I
had to use the bathroom every five to fifteen minutes, but she refused
to let me see my VA doctor. I asked her not to talk down to me and she
got mad and started in with, "I'm just tellin' you the facts, just the
facts!" BTW, the VA emergency room is over an hour's drive.

This is the same nurse who told me, "There isn't anything wrong with
your eye. Go to Walgreens and buy some damn eyedrops! Then go home and
quit being such a whiner!" I managed to catch a no show seat on the DAV
van to the hospital the next day, and had to make five more trips for my
non problem. It was six months of repeated exams, that just ended a few
weeks ago.

Before that, both she and the idiot doctor she was assigned to were
insisting I had too much salt in my diet, which was almost zero. When
the sores started popping up on my legs she told me "You must be doing
something wrong." That doctor is gone, the salt is back in my diet
where I need it, but I have about a half square foot of scar tissue from
their bad advice.

I am sending a registered letter to both the local clinic director,
as well as the regional VA director. I had to get up and walk out,
because for the first time in my 56 years, I was about to punch a
woman. She isn't worth the trouble, even if she deserves it. Other
patients have told me similar stories about that nurse.

Good grief!! I think I'd just bite the bullet and find a local doctor to
take care of me. Friend of ours was always insisting on going to the VA for
care and having to see a different doctor every time. He got sicker and
sicker until his wife insisted he stop going there. Lots of horror stories
like that out there. So......have you found out what is wrong with you?

Not possible to use another doctor, unless I don't pay my utilities,
property taxes and mortgage payments. My VA disability pension is a
joke, at under half of the official poverty level. I used to make more
in overtime for a single week than I have to scrape by on, all month.

The problem is the same as always. I have a lifelong history of low
level infections. The biggest cause is my teeth. I have nine left that
are infected at the tips of the roots, deep in my jawbone. Thanks to the
bastards in Congress, the VA isn't allowed to take them out because
'Teeth are not a health issue'. They will do the work and take it out
of my disability pension, leaving me nothing for food, or anything else.

I must have accidentally deleted your VA-Hell posts, Michael, but I am
very sorry to read it in Piper's reply. Medicare doesn't cover teeth
either and the rads I underwent left me with teeth that are always
getting cavities. I've had a number of root canals. You have my
sympathy. As for Nurse Twit and Doctor Moron, I hope the VA takes your
letters to heart.
