Where on the "pathetic, navel gazing confessional soap opera swipe" continuum do
you assess your own writing to fall? Do you think your writing is less
disgustingly personal (to summarize your view of Renay's)?

So? It is the context in which YOU used it, not the context in which it
was created that matters here.

I write: "You're a drunken moron with the ethical intelligence of a slug
soaked in LSD. Someday I will bugger you with an entrenching tool."

You write: "As usual - hic - your ancillary - hic - acidity is amusing."

I write: "Actually, that was a nostalgic homage to a Chicago street person."

See, mook?

Pathetic was RJS' word, not mine, but there are obvious elements of
pathos involved with her poems.

Almost every poem I write has a personal element, and that, to me,
makes the best poetry. The "navel gazing" reference has in fact been
used in critique of my poetry, and partially where I copped the term
from.

In this case, with judging RJS' poetry, I'm pointing out the hypocrisy
of the standard makers of these newsgroups, Ward, Gas-fly, et al, who
ordinarily, and usually quite brutally, dismiss the poetry of the
"navel gaze confessional" variety.

 > Do you think your writing is less
 > disgustingly personal (to summarize your view of Renay's)?

I never described it as "disgusting", Karla. Some of my best friends
are trailer trash, and proudly so.

Hope this helps.

That is only one component of why they dismiss such writing.

You made many references to Renay and Renay's poetry as trailer trash in a
derogatory connotation. In fact, if you see no insult to calling someone's
writing "trailer trash", where then is the insult which prompts your crusade?

 >Hope this helps.

It doesn't. I'm well aware of your crusade. Aside from that, I'm asking you to
give me your assessment of your own writing. Do you find it superior to
Renay's?

Here's a good spot to show Gamble as nothing but a jeering Gas-fly,
after all.

When I first arrived on these newsgroups, I noticed one of the better
poets posting here at the time was... Pandora.

Here's one of my favorites from that era:

the crow chose me
my animal guide
wise perky noisy trickster

my hubby thinks it's fitting
and so do I
for who can ignore a crow
noisily cawing
proclaiming it's presence
or arrogantly strutting through a parking lot

and yet
it survives and thrives
as do I

be wary though
of the trickster aspect
crows can fool you

I think I will, old pal.

A lovely afternoon to stroll down to Don's Pub for a drink or two and
sharpen up with the billiards geezers.

Do you like Pandora's poetry, though? Seems you accidentally *snipped*
it:

I find it a reshering change from the "navel-gazing" of the trailer
park/soap opera variety we've been inflicted with, and all the
hypocritical applause from the gas-fly set.

but it's interesting, drunky. you're the only person who's referred to Ms.
Renay's poetry as navel-gazing.

what exactly does "navel-gazing" mean? where in her poetry does this happen? i
assert that there is not a single moment in any or Ms. Renay's poetry where this
navel-gazing is happening. not a single line or word. not for a moment.

if you are unable to provide any examples, i can only assume that you're lying.

That's not my problem.

That wasn't an insult, but an observation of the kind of poetry RSJ
writes.

Nope, I read several, through the link above.

Her poetry is becoming more widely known, so perhaps someone else will,
since that's obviously what she writes, almost always.

I like to admit to only one addiction in my life: pool. All through my
undergrad days, I was totally hooked on it. I was even hanging Daddy O's
tuition checks on the games. It's strange because I hate gambling (aside
from black jack and poker), but when it comes to pool, I can't play
unless there's some heavy cash on the line. Since I made up my mind not
to play for money anymore several yrs ago, I've had to quit pool
altogether.

You any good?

Nope, it's very poorly constructed, as if with no mind to flow at all.
The first two lines create potential but the remainder goes nowhere
interesting, either visually, sonically or conceptually.

It is called prose, IMO.

The fact that it is chopped up in little unpunctuated lines
doesn't change that.

Even as prose, it would have the possibility of amusement.
This crow didn't.
