Speaking of pines, while looking at the SoHo area on the "Sat Map",
it's interesting [to me] to remember when just 20 years ago this entire
area was one major highway surrounded by a huge pine forest, site of
many weekend parties and car races.
At just around the spot where SoHo now stands, on July 4 1978, I
crashed my Rambler station wagon into a pine tree as the Bonsonic
casette machine blasted the just-released "London Calling" record...
the tree was smashed to sawdust, our beer slung hither-and-yon, but the
tape kept playing and the car kept driving and everybody laughed... ah,
now /that/ is poetry study...
