Mr. Wilder waxed lyrical on Mr. Depp/Mr. Burton's interpretation as
far as what was done for commercial reasons vs "art". Mr. Depp's
reply pointed out, with great restraint I thought, that Mr. Wilder was
in fact **paid** for his efforts. (You can probably google the key
words and find out the details if you are so inclined.)

Did not reflect well on Mr. Wilder IMNSHO.

Given how much money Mr Wilder has probably made over the years
off of his version of the movie (indirectly if not off of
royalties)... no, commentary like that would not reflect well. He
can't possibly be under the illusion that Hollywood makes movies
sheerly for the fun of it, with no concern for financial renumeration.
