That's all very well but did you find any Hardy Boys books?
Old FEs are selling for thousands!

Gulp. There were a few there, but I did not look at them. Back around 1958
when I was nine or ten years old, I was given a set of the early ones by a
cousin who was then getting married. I am fairly certain that they (or most of
them) were not FEs, and that he had probably acquired them in the 1940s.

I recently found a presentation copy of Untermeyer's *Lives of the
Poets: The Story of One Thousand Years of English and American
Poetry*.

I guess his is not an uncommon signature, but an interesting
coincidence nonetheless.

Bob,

Can you give a CLIFFS NOTES on what to look for? I am in an area
where I see a lot of these, which I (like Francis) bypass, not from
lack of interest but from lack of knowledge.
I have a hard enough time keeping the things I want fresh in my mind,
let alone some of the fringe things I stumble over.

Thanks,

Dave

Well, you can check my Hardy Boys site for more info and other sources
but a good rule of thumb when dealing with Hardy Boys books is that if
they have red bindings and DJ's with white spines, you can find a
ready market for them on eBay.

The fact of the matter is, ANY Hardy Boy book
in very good or above condition with dust-jacket
is highly collectible. (Of course, I am talking
about books from the 50's back, not the
Applewood reprints, which are nice but in a
different category.) I don''t know why "Mr
Hardy Boys" is harping about "white spines"
when those with yellow spines on the dust-
jacket are also highly prized. Again, any
Hardy Boy book in at least very good condtion
with dust jacket has a ready market on E-Bay,
etc.,or in a used book store. In fact, virtually
any juvenile series book at all (Nancy Drew,
etc.) from the 50's back, if it is in very good
condition with d. j., is highly sought-after
and a good bet for a fast sale on ebay --
at perhaps a minimum of $15 and often far
more more depending on specifics of title,
edition, etc.

The nice thing about you palmjob is that you never let your ignorance
stop you from posting.

You are the one who is ignorant. Anyone reading
your previous post would get the notion that the
Hardy Boys with yellow spines on the d. j. 's are
not worth collecting. And don't try to cop out here
by referring everyone to your website "to put the
matter in perspective." Your POST sounded
ignorant to me. Sort of like, "If you are scouting
around at your local thrift and you see a dozen or
so Hardies with yellow spines for a dollar or two
each, don't waste your money on them." No,
you did not SAY that. In fact, I will agree that
you did not intend to convey that erroneous
message. Yet, a newbie reading your post
could get such a notion, and that's what I was
concerned with. You and a few others only
write for yourselves, which is why you post
in a manner that is elliptical, not in the grammatical
sense, but in a far more harmful, logical sense.
People like me, who already know as much
(or, I daresay, far more) about the topic than
you do, understand your Swiss-cheese
enthymemes and your chopped liver non sequiturs,
but to the new people, your posts are a ball of
confusion. Instead of helping, you are vexing
readers and entangling their minds in trails of
thought for no good reason at all. And when
criticized for it, instead of trying to do better,
you grow angry and lash out. Sad.

yawn...
Like I said palmjob, it's nice to see you never let facts or logic get
in the way of one of your nonsensical rants!

See here, fellow, you may not realize it, but you
look very silly clomping around this group on that
high-horse of yours. If you would dare to dismount for
a day or two, you might learn something. It seems to
me that I did an excellent job of pinpointing a
communication problem you have: Your messages
usually only make sense to people who know as much
or more about a topic than you, You are no help to the
newbies at all, and in fact you are often rudely impatient
when you should be assisting.

By the way, you think you are stabbing at me by
mangling my patronym in your puerile fashion. All
you are doing is proving to the readers that at least
part of your mind has never gotten beyond the second
or third grade level, when children are still unaware
that mangling one persons last name really insults
all with the name. Last I heard, there were perhaps
300,000 Palmers in the English speaking world, and
you are insulting all of them.

Someone riding around a book collecting forum on a
high-horse while engaging in third-grade name-mangling
humor is a shabby newsgroup speciman. Cheers.

Bob,

Thanks or the answer, I did look at your site and it was helpful. I
see a lot of books from the 40-50's as I am close to a large
retirement community and have seen a good number of moving and estate
sales. Several times I have offered to help 'broker' sales of books
that I knew were worth more than the asking prices, but the people
were only interested in moving the books quickly. I did send a dealer
to one elderly lady, who got the address from me on the condition he
take everything, not just cherry pick his 'wants'.

Thanks,

Dave

BTW, could you please not quote the goof-ball ? I know that with
most of the regulars having either ignored or KF'ed P-----b by now,
only the newbie or drive-by readers will ever respond to OR give any
consideration to ANYTHING that is posted 'from the commode', the
temptation is great to point out the obvious, -he is a nut job- when
in less than 2 postings that job is expertly handled by himself.
Usually within the first 100 or so lines.
Of the first post.

Oh, and to forestall the inevitable " I am the Internet's MOST WIDELY
READ AUTHOR" puerile mewling, consider this:
There are Horoscopes published in every major newspaper,
There is a major outcry if they are moved/canceled
AND
There is actual value in the Horoscopes, since they may make you feel
better.
