I just finished TQfSC and have a new take on what happened at the end.
When Kelson was visited by presumably St Camber in the test, It reads
like he programmed things into Kelson's mind. So when he and Dhougal
encounter the visitor, my theory is the shiral buried in the sand
triggers the images in Kelson's mind (like Queron did during the
sainthood trial), thus no footprints and instant come & go.

just some idle thoughts now that i have reread all of the books up to
KKB.

Guess my only problem with this theory is that they found the stranger
before the shiral crystal and Dhugal saw the vision also and he didn't
go through the trial with Kelson.

I keep thinking that there has to be someting with portal capabilities
that came into play in this scene. Maybe something we haven't been
introduced to yet. Can Deryni hover? Part of their ability is just
normal psi stuff so I wonder could they float- would explain the lack
of foot prints there and as well as in the scene with Duncan in DC.

It would be interesting to find out exactly what Camber imparted to
Kelson.

if it was a projection like Queron used, then Both Kelson and Dhugal
would see it. And it could have been triggered by the shiral and
hidden the shiral at the same time. I have trouble with the hovering
(getting too close to jedi powers)<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Guess we could get Spock or another Vulcan to do the mind meld technique. Or
is there a Deryni equivalent?

Yes there is. Mogan used it in High Deryni. You should re-read DR
sometime from a "Star Trek" perspective. Few things will jump out at
you.

Didn't The Legacy of Lehr start off as a Star Trek story?
