Archived from groups: alt>publish>books (more info?)

I have a sentence using a registered trademark name, followed by the
registered trademark symbol, followed by a comma. The registered
trademark symbol appears as a superscript character.

The comma appears to be preceded by a space because of space under
the symbol. How is this normally handled to make it look better? I
think it would look better if there were a way to push the comma
somewhat left under the superscript symbol.

My first thought is to rewrite the sentence.

I am using FrameMaker to layout the document.

Framemaker is able to adjust letterspacing (kerning) for individual
letters. Simply adjust the kerning of the comma to move it closer to the
word (under the (R) or 'tm' symbol).

It will always tend to look a little awkward, but it's not an uncommon
situation.
