In Kenya elephants have taken on a very bad attitude toward mankind. A
large number of these 'phants' - with their great memories - have
nursed grudges against the human race for nearly 30 years. Now they
refuse to act noble for the tourists. They are extremely nasty to the
locals, doing unspeakable things near the roads. They have forced us to
take action. On the news tonight there was some footage showing a bunch
of brawny game officers "with their buttocks bursting out of their
white trousers" chasing after one single rogue elephant. And overhead
was a helicopter with a sharp shooter. The scene was quite chaotic and
disturbing. Speaking from my own limited experience with these
thick-skinned and thick-headed beasts, I can at least testify to their
rudeness. At the zoo last summer one turned its back and tried to
pretend I wasn't there, and then actually tried to stand where none of
the visitors could see it. Stupid pachyderm, I said loud enough for it
to hear, but I wonder if the others grasped that I had said it to avoid
looking the fool--?
