I really do like Terry Brooks' stuff and some of his stuff is in my
"favourites" list but, like every other book he seems to have done,
Armageddon's Children is part of a series. It's not as if it's a
massive 1000 page book that had to stop for size reasons, it seems to be
purely commercial stiffing of his readers.
Feist, Robert Jordan & George R R Martin's "series" have legitimate
reasons for stopping where they do and serialising their books as
they're usually so big despite them being quite tightly written. Even
then, Feist seems to be slipping into the small books in a series mode
that seem to be finished before their even into the story.
Against my better judgement, I bought Armageddon's Children and got
thoroughly hooked in the well written and clever story just when it
ended. Not even a logical end-point, just a cliff-hanger to get you to
buy the next one when it comes out.
Never again. I will not be buying any more Brooks or Feist books until
a particular "series" is complete and I can read them end-to-end without
having to wait for 18 months between books.
