For me...

Well, first of all got two little girls at home with colds...not
fun. So most of my home time is spent trying to help find the
order in the chaos.

Shopping is also big for me right now. Little girls like toys
for Christmas. Smile

Other than that, work and more work until I get some time off
around the Holiday itself. Then it's going to be doing a lot of
relaxing at home as well as fun with family. Smile

Doing volunteer work at our Christkindlmarkt and catching a
couple extra days of work here and there - gotta pay for the
Christmas goodies somehow!

Tomorrow I've scheduled a trip to the Vanity Fair outlet in
Reading. Looking at the weather forecast, I might have to put
the water wings on my car! Just can't beat the prices though so
it'll be worth the trip.

Got a couple of Christmas parties to go to yet, then for
Christmas day we'll be going down to my older brother's house.

I already got my X-mass present: President Bush gave me Boxing Day
off! What a nice 19th Anniversary present.

The Hobbit got his present early as well. He was having a bad day and
so I went and got him a new toy to play with over the holidays: a PS2
with 5 games and two controllers.

For both of us there's our Fandango tickets to RotK on Saturday.

So Santa can skip our house and use the extra time to bring good stuff
to everyone!

You sound like my sister. I'm looking forward to seeing her, once
finals are over.

Here I am with a bajillion holiday dessert recipes from the ABML
recipe exchange, and I just know my Xmas dinner hostess is going to
ask me to bring salad. Again.

Xmas day with mother, sister, family of sister's/mother's good
friends. (Friends are also a mom/daughter pair.) Weekend after Xmas
sister and I take a train up to see father. I don't quite know where
brother is this year, but hopefully he remembers to call or tell
someone.

Then I shall prudently return to work. With one day off the week
after Xmas to give mother her gift - a day in San Francisco with her
daughters. Asian Art museum, afternoon tea, etc. <g>

Whiney Pepper wants me to stop playing with the boring computer and go
play with food (drop food!) instead.

Hmmm? Holidays?
Oh, right.

Rats.

Well, I'm going to a party tonight and I have to take a gift and I
really should take some food also so I think that I'll make some sort
of dip and then I need to work on the portrait of Charity some more so
that it will be done in time for Christmas and The Return Of The King
is coming out and the get-together for the staff of the summer camp I
worked at is coming up and I need to finish my shopping and I start my
new job next week and I need to review my class schedule and possibly
think about taking an art class and decide if I should get Marcia
anything and catch up on my newsgroup reading and sleep at some point
and watch The Two Towers extended edition again and listen to the
commentaries and

breathe.

Take time to enjoy the season. Snow falls and makes beautiful scenes.
Take the time to savour them. Just sit outside and listen... Visit
with old friends; make new friends. Talk to family members I haven't
seen in six months.

For the first time ever, Jesse and I are staying HOME this year. By
ourselves! *small dance of joy* Thanks to insane airfares and my
in-laws building a house so that THEY can't afford to subsidize our
trip to Nebraska, we are actually free to spend our holiday as we
please!

All the presents are bought, and I'd be done wrapping if my MIL would
have paid Amazon to wrap things or done her shopping a tad earlier.
*roll of eyes* The first of several packages from them arrived today.

Jesse has to work Christmas Eve, but when he gets home, we'll eat
Seafood Casserole and relax before heading off to the late service at
church.

Christmas Day, I've been told that I'm not allowed to get him up
before 7am. LOL I'm going to attempt to roast a goose for dinner. Smile

Then I'll spend Boxing Day racing around getting the apartment
sparkling clean for my parents who are flying in the morning of the
27th. They''ll be here for a week, and Jesse is taking the week off,
so we'll spend the week site-seeing. They're also _staying_ with us
(WHY did we ever buy that futon?!?!?) so I expect we'll also spend the
week trying not to kill each other. LOL

long hair, Rahab was a prostitute, Timothy was too young, David had an illicit affair,
Elijah was suicidal, Isaiah preached naked, Job was bankrupt, John the Baptist ran around
in a loin cloth, Peter was hot-tempered, John was self-righteous.

The disciples fell asleep while praying, Martha fretted about everything, Mary Magadalene
was demon-possessed, the boy with the fish and five rolls of bread was too obscure,
the Samaritan woman was divorced more than once, Zacchaeus was too small, Paul was too religious,
and Lazarus was dead.

No more excuses!"

If you like dark meat, you'll *love* goose!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My advice (for what it's worth), do *not* put the stuffing inside the
goose -- it'll get saturated with grease. Bake the stuffing in a
separate casserole -- or just make stovetop stuffing.
When you put the goose on a rack in the roasting pan, put at least 1-2
cups of water in the bottom of the pan. Prick the goose all over. Then,
after the goose has been roasting for 45 minutes or so, suction the
grease out of the bottom of the pan and add more water. Do the suction
thing/add water at least once or twice more during the cooking time.
(If you don't get rid of the grease from the pan during cooking, it will
begin to burn/cook out and you will have invisible smoke and your smoke
alarm will go bonkers!!! That's why you have water in the bottom, too.
So speaks the VOICE OF EXPERIENCE!)
You will have a *lot* of grease/fat from the goose.
We've been doing goose for Christmas dinner for over 20 years. It's
definitely not an inexpensive meat, but oh so nummy!
(Goose, stuffing, wild rice with mushrooms and onion sauteed in butter,
lime jello with mandarin oranges and pineapple, green veggie, and
pumpkin pie -- Burp!)

Christmas 12 years ago -- with my two sibs and their spouses and their
kids and me, hubby and our kids -- all in one house for 5 days.
(6 adults and 8 kids -- aged 7-1Cool The one and only time we were *ever*
all together for the holiday. Everyone had a wonderful time. It is a
blessing to have a memory like that.

Right now I'm still in the situation that I juggle around with classes
and my baking programme. I also really need to clean my place, which I
plan to do on Friday.

Saturday, the holidays start for me, with the X-mas ball of my
Scottish Country dance class.

Of course, then I have to go to the dentist on monday and tuesday to
get my teeth repaired. But my best friend and her boyfriend will visit
me on Monday afternoon for afew hours of peace and talking and
drinking ridiculous amounts of tea. We decided that we won't buy any
presents this year, and instead give each other a nice evening with
entertainment and food next year, as we did not spend a lot of time
together this year. One of the besz presents I'll get this year.

Christmas Eve will be just my parents, my brother and me, having a
dinner we haven't decided on yet, though I will get to make dessert.
And present! Hey, I'm German, we get to open them on christmas Eve!

Christmas day will be devoted to the extended family: visit one
Grandmother in the morning, then my other grandparents plus my two
uncles with their family will come to my parents place for coffee and
gift exchanging. Which is new this year, we'll see how it works out.

After the holidays, I need to start preparing for my dissertation,
which I will start come February. And in between hopefully see a lot
of my friends, maybe even some that are far away during the rest of
the year, spend hours on the net, talking to those that are too far
away, and generally enjoy the twoo week break from regular classes.

Well, I get Boxing Day off too but I only have to thank the
Julian Calendar for it...BEcause Christmas is on a Thursday and
we're off half day on the 24th too, seemed silly to take 1.5 days
off, come back for a day, and go back to vacation for the 27th
and 28th... So, the company just shut down for that weekend...

My sympathies. Not only do I have 2 somewhat bigger girls at home
with colds, I've got one as well. Sore throat, coughing, general
misery all 'round. I can't even send them outside to play since it's
so stinking hot (42C/108F yesterday) so they are somewhat stir-crazy
right now.

They are finished with school for the year as of last friday. Ishtar
is already bored and quite horrified at the concept that she has to
stay home until the end of January. She can't wait to get back and go
into Year 3,

Bigger girls like toys for Christmas, too. However, Santa has almost
completed their Haul - just the Stocking Stuffers to get now. And
some extra Stuff for the Daddy-Monster to unwrap on The Day.

The Holiday is when the real work begins for me. We're having
Christmas Dinner on the 21st this year as Himself's brother is going
to be here en route to their parents' home in Perth. Also, we usually
have a Big Dinner on the day for those of our friends unable to Go
Home - but this year they've all been told Come Home Or Else...

So, this way we *still* get to celebrate with our friends AND they get
to satisfy family as well. As one said "Having timed it right, I get
TWO wonderful Christmas Dinners this year, not just one".
