Anyone heard anything? I'm caught up to the Shadow of Saganami and
Honor's latest jaunt but the wait for the next book is really killing
me. I was curious, does it have a title or not?

It takes time to write them; there is also a next major book in the
series coming, but we will just have to wait. At least David Weber
isn't getting tired of Honor Harrington, the way Arthur Conan Doyle
did of Sherlock Holmes, or Edgar Rice Burroughs did of Tarzan.

I don't know if he's getting tired of her or not, but perhaps he may need
some time away from her to refresh the mind with new ideas.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the next books in the Hell's Gate and
Off Armageddon Reef series. I'm enjoying reading the snippets for the
next book in the OAR series.

BTW, Dahak, if you read this, I don't think that Linda Evans is the
co-author
on the next OAR series book. She's the co-author on the Hell's Gate series
of books.

don't forget - it's not necessarily that he's getting tired or burnt out
(though would you blame him if he did?) - as that there IS a finale to the
series - at least the Honor Harrington series - and it IS approaching - and
probably in the next 4-6 books - possibly 8 at the outside most.

Honor Harrington retires and becomes the grey eminence behind the throne of
the Manticore Empire

For the model of the finale look at Poul Anderson's Dominic Flandry series!!

Trying to recall what Dave said in a phone conversation months ago - i
*think* he said that there's another "Saganami" and another "Crown of
Slaves" book in the chute, but i don't know when.

I have to say that neither of those is what i'd call a compelling read
for me - i have trouble keeping track of the characters in the "Hell's
Gate" books (and don't particularly feel any empathy for most of
them), and never even finished OAR.

that's unfortunate. I consider it to be a well thought out and well defined
expanded version of the third Dahak book (presented in new form of course).

Of course i've always liked the Alternate Universe type settings based on
history anyways.

forgotten everything about the book.

To each, his own.

I've enjoyed all three books.

I was a little dismayed that we saw so little of Shaylar, etc. in 2nd Hell's
Gate
book.

So is this what DW is doing when he runs out of new story ideas, rewriting
his old books?
This is the second instance of his rewriting a previous book - cant say that
I was disappointed though as I can't find any interest in these "off-brand"
missives.
As has been stated before, DW's editors need to exercise greater control
over his output - if possible!!

Hope they don't degenerate the way the Dune series did - into a morass of
ill written incomprehensible garbage - followed by the current series of
horribly written sequels.

I think it's more like a story is stuck in his head and he wants it out -
and wants it out correctly. I don't have a problem with this as it's
usually a much better story the second time around. And considering his
output (he puts out 1-2 books per year - AND contributes to 2-3 other books
per year on average - sometimes even more). How many other authors do you
know with that kind of output?
