Hi all,
We need more prayers. Here everything was going
so well and Mom was supposed to be heading to rehab in
a day or so.
Then last night everything fell apart. She
coded...you know Code Blue, like you see in the movies
and on TV. They resuscitated her after her heart
stopped with the paddles and the chest compressions
and the ventilator, but when they called me at 4:45
this morning she had gone back into a coma and they
didn't think she'd come out of it.
"Statistically her chances of waking up aren't
good," said the residents. Well, statistics be
damned!
My mom woke up and proved them wrong again. She's
awake and was able to communicate through hand
squeezes and hand motions that she knows we're there
and understands at least some of what we're saying.
It's hard to assess all of her cognitive functioning
because they doped her up with Halidol (sp?) to calm
her since the ventilator tube in her throat makes her
terribly agitated. They say she's "breathing above
the vent" which means she's breathing on her own with
minimal support from the machine, so hopefully we can
get it off her soon.
I don't know if we've had another miracle. This
morning I really thought it was the end. But
apparently my mom is not going "to go quietly in that
good night." She is fighting like crazy! So maybe
she can make it. My friend Dr. Meg thinks she can and
I trust her opinion.
Please keep the prayers and candles going -- I know
that's part of what made this miracle happen. A Power
besides modern medicine is at work here, that's for
sure.
Thanks!

Whoof! Sounds like your mom is one of those who will go kicking and
screaming, "What a hell of a ride!"
Goodthoughts definitely continuing>>>

Hi all,
Please keep the prayers and candles going. Mom is hanging on and
still fighting but we definitely aren't out of the woods yet. She has
an infection (pneumonia and/or a urinary tract infection) and that
makes breathing difficult so we'll probably have to go with a
tracheostomy.
Thanks for all the support! It means more than I can tell you!
Love,
Susan >> Stay informed about: latest update from Susan |

You have 'em, Susan! (and you forced me to look up a word - I had
heard of tracheotomy, but not tracheostomy. I see now that they are
essentially synonymous...)
Rest of the family grab some of those goodthoughts, too!
