The UK trailer of A Scanner Darkly starts with usual phrase fro all
trailers "From the creator of..." adding "...Blade Runner..." Well, I
guess they mean Philip Dick. But he did not create Blade Runner, which
is a movie loosely based on his book "Do androids...", you all know. But
who cares, marketing people love the phrase "From the creator" and
wanted to associate A Scanner Darkly with Blade Runner. If I were Ridley

Probably because the film was so unconventional (I am referring to the
animation). To many people, myself included, animation is an
automatic turn off. I saw it, and I would have prefered "real"
actors. I wouldn't have seen it if it wasn't based on my favorite

I was sceptical about going to see it:- wondering why the animation process
was being used and whether they would ruin another PKD story.
IMO they are real actors and I was conscious that they look like the real
Keannu, Winona, Downey and Harrelson.

I generally agree with some of the comments: I wouldn't have normally
seen it @ the cinema if it was something other than PKD, and most of it
would have been served well with the actors on their own.
What I did like was the animation of the suit, and the way that the
animator's interpretation of things added an extra depth on top of the
actor's interpretation.
All in all, though, a faithful adaptation of a PKD story - at last!

The depiction of the suit was maybe the most interesting thing in the film.
Not quite how I imagined it from the novel.

Surprisingly faithfull. My only slight disapointment was the lack of humour.
They didn't really catch the funniness about the bike gears.
And did they do the part about the coke bottles on the freway? It said a lot
about the character of Donna. She was underwritten in the film.
One last point: I don't think Barris was nasty or cynical enough...but that
is Hollywood!

the book (I was going to say "real life"! OMG!).
