We ate Thanksgiving dinner yesterday with a family friend who was also
experiencing her first holiday without her mother. I hope it helped her to
have us there.
(Certainly helped us, since she took on the big task of cooking the turkey.)

My turn is coming. Either by the end of this year or next years as my
mom looked terrible on Thanksgiving. She's falling a lot and having
major memory issues. She didn't even remember my sons let alone the one
who was there.

It DOES get better. The year of Firsts really bite but the time DOES
come when you can look back with joy on the love she brought to your
life without mourning so deeply that you have lost her. I know you
can't see such a time when you're hurting so much but it does come. I
lost my Mum in 2001.

my mom, just my family, and I could imagine how devastated

I understand completely. The first holiday really sucks after you

Trust those of us who have been here Tris. It WILL get a bit easier as time
goes past. Mind, the pain will never entirely go away, I STILL hate the
month of January after almost 10 years (Mom, next year Grandfather, the next
year my Grandmother) but it DOES get easier to bear. Expecially if you have
good friends and family to share with.
You (and ALL of us here) have one heck of a support system rattling around
here in this Inn.
