hello.. I don't see too many people here but I'm going to post anyway.
I have been a J.K. Rowling fan for a long time and recently I started to
read the books from Eddings, loved the Belgarad series even though I haven't
finished yet. I see a lot of people recommending "anything" from Raymond
Feist and I would like to give it a try.
I see references to Riftwar Saga and the Empire series.. I'm not familiar
with this author so are this a good way to start ?
Any help will be appreciated

The best place to start is with Ray's first book "Magician", the first
book in the Riftwar Saga. If you live in some parts of the world it
may be split into two parts "Magician : Apprentice" and "Magician :
Master"

The Riftwar Saga and then the Empire Series is the best reading order i find
, once you've finished them you can move onto the other series.
Riftwar
1. Magician (May be published in 2 parts Magician: Apprentice , Magician:
Master)
2. Silverthorn
3. A Darkness at Sethanon
Empire Series
1. Daughter of the Empire
2. Servant of the Empire
3. Mistress of the Empire
Hope you enjoy them , I still do after many many rereads over the years

Yes, Magician is the best place to start. You can find it in one volume in
hardback. Also, I purchased the paperback in two books. Magician:
Apprentice and Magician: Master.
Personally, the Empire series is probably the best trilogy I have read.

Didi, pardon me for asking, but how old are you? I am 31 and started reading
Feist when I was a teen. Reason I am asking is that being a teen seems to
enhance Feist's fiction 10 fold. So, was just curious. GL and enjoy! >> Stay informed about: newbie |

You know.. that was going to be my next question.. I see Magician but I have
also seen Magician :Apprentice and Magician : Master and I was wondering if
it was the same but in a whole book instead of two. I would rather have one
book instead of two. I will buy the Empire also.. thanks

Awesome! I think you should enjoy them all!!! The whole reason behind asking
your age was because Feist's more recent works just havent gripped me the
way the Riftwar Saga did. I attribute this party to the age I was when I
read them, (when I was playing RPG's daily), and perhaps also to the natural
changes an author goes through. Although we think his work is timeless, Ray
is not. =)

I do understand what you are saying..I used to play adventure games 24-7..
but lately there's nothing compare to the good old games..
Is not our mind, is the quality that changes. Sometimes better doesn't mean
the best. Thats why I'm looking forward to read Feist's earlier works..
those are probably the best.

I'm 32. Like you, I discovered fantasy with Harry Potter and also Lord of
the rings as movie.
Then I wanted to read more fantasy and I began with Magician: Apprentice and
Magician: Master. (In France they are always in 2 books).
I really enjoy them. So I don't know if it depends of the age of the reader
but if it does, I think I kept the soul of a teen.
I hope you will enjoy them. Tell us if you do or not

Don't forget to read also Silverthorn and A Darkness at Sethanon which are
part of the Riftwar saga, before reading the Empire series.
Personally I just finished Silverthorn and I'm going to read A Darkness at
Sethanon. I never read the Empire series so I don't know if it's good or
not. But reading reviews of Moxie I will probably try it also.

I have tried to read Lord of the Ring twice and finally gave up.. to many
shades of green .. so I'm stuck to watching the movies.
As soon as I finish with Eddings The Belgariad saga I'll start with Riftwar
saga. About the only thing that can stop me from reading that is if J.K.
Rowling get book 7 of Harry Potter out and that's not happening.

Hi Didi
Maybe we can discuss directly by emails or on the newsgroup alt.fantasy
because I think we can
discuss a lot about our readings but it will not always concern Feist so it
could be not appreciated on the newsgroup about Feist.
I told you that we have a lot in common because it seems that we followed
the same path. I'm also a big fan of Harry Potter. In fact it's after
reading Harry Potter that I wanted to read something else in fantasy so I
began to read the riftwar saga. But I'm not a big reader (even if I read
more and more) so it takes me time. And I often change the serie I'm
reading. So between 2nd and the 3rd book of the riftwar saga, I began to
read The Belgariad. I read the first book and began the second one but I'm a
little stuck with it. For me it's always the same. Nothing new, nothing
surprising.
Does it improve after ?
I'm also waiting for Harry Potter 5 in French.
I never tried to read Lord of the rings but I'm afraid not to be able to do
so. I'm planning to read The Hobbit, just to try.
Are you interested in continuing discussing about our readings ? I was
looking for someone having the same readings as me. You seem to be the good
person so I would really appreciate to chat with you.
See you.
