But, Shoggoths don't HAVE faces, so I should be immune to THAT effect
anyway. Hmm, no bones to melt away either.

So who was originally cast to play Indy, they even had posters printed,
but they could not get him out of his TV show contract long enough to
film the movie?
BTW, Steven Spielberg wanted Harrison Ford, but George Lucas did not.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_Jones#Casting
I only remembered this because I recalled seeing a picture of the poster
in a People, or similar, magazine.
Also, if some unholy fool decides to open the 'box' in your presence,
shut your eyes until you hear the sound FX of the lid slamming onto the box.

Ding! The 'wyrm wins the prize...
Yeah... had an assignment that consisted of selecting from a
variety of films from over the years on different themes and
reflecting on those themes based upon our current scriptural
study.
My study was a reflection on Hollywood's presentation of God's
glory (opening the ark in Raiders and parting of the Red Sea from
The Ten Commandments) and the treatment of the same in modern
North American Christian churches...
...was actually a rather interesting assignment.

My OT Prof was giggling after we watched that scene in class. He
went on for a few minutes about the rediculousness of it all...as
if shutting your eyes will help... I mean, no-one but the family
of Aaron (no, not THAT Aaron, the other one) were even allowed to
LOOK at it closed, let alone open the thing.... and touching the
thing? Oy...
Anywho, we had a good laugh at Hollywood that day...

I believe the more recent Sci-Fi channel mini-series (2001?) was better.
More watchable, anyway.
As a teenager, I made it through the first 4 books in the main Dune
six-ology before pooping out. (Ah, the momentum and energy of youth.)
Tried again as an adult, and only made it through the first book and a few
chapters of the second. Actually, 'Dune' was fine -- dense, but readable.
The second book... it was like trying to read a tarpit. Thick, gooey, I
couldn't see very much and I had the ominous feeling I was siiiiiiiinking...

The extended version wasn't too awful, but the original theatrical
release was seriously stinky.

Loved Dune ... thought Dune Messiah should have been part of the first
book. Children of Dune showed me where they were going next, and that
I didn't have any desire to join them on the journey. Got 200 or so
pages into someone else's copy of God Emperor before I gave up.

I've never read either.
But my mother's reading group made it through both. Perhaps the support
group was necessary to motivate them... on the other hand, they are very
tough readers. Ovid, Faulkner, James Joyce, Marcel Proust... Maybe
Tolstoy wasn't so much of a leap.
She's been in the same reading group for 20+ years. Pretty cool.

Oh, yes. We watched the trilogy with the kids in preparation, too.
And we're contemplating the Young Indiana Jones series, which is
finally being released on DVD
