I NEED to sell a lot of books (hundreds) and want to get the best
price. I figure I can do that if I do a little research first. Okay,
a lot of research. I'm sure used booksellers like nothing more than
for a person to bring in boxes of unsorted books as there might be
rare and scarce books worth multiples of the original list price. I
want to know that before I take the books in.
The used bookstore is so different now. It used to be a good source
of bargains but these days, at least in my area, the trend seems to be
to research the books and sell them at a minimum of half list (for
decent, desirable titles.) Since used bookstores have transformed
from flea market mentality (not a criticism of flea mkts, please!) I
realize having the knowledge of the value of what I have would be
essential.
I'm in the U.S. Where online can I get a decent gauge of a book's
value, it's real value? Perhaps I might opt for eBay on certain items
(I have a few rare/scarce books that I know about.) I'm trying to
find that source that a used bookstore might use as a gauge of
relative value.
www.bookfinder.com seems pretty good, and also pretty slow, but a good
resource. Also, bibliofind looks good.
Amazon offers used book prices, too. I've noticed they seem to be out
of whack, both high and low.
What sites are the industry secrets for judging book value?
