While I am grateful for having this many points and I do not
recall when I got the third, at least one of them was for a
post that caused a lot of controversy, so I would prefer not
to count that one.

I don't track where points come from, just the points themselves.
Once it's recorded, it's recorded and no going back.
I know past POINTkeepers have tracked where each point
was allocated and for what, but I started POINTkeeping
when I was, in RL, also moving my home, so I kept it
simple. Scores go up; I'm not complicating my job
by making it possible to take them down, too.

(I adopted a doggie last weekend. I'm busy!)

COPPERs count as two regular points, so two of the
regular points in your pile are from the COPPER.

Hmmmm. One of them probably got lost in between the end
of the last game and the start of the first. Or just didn't
show up on my newsserver. If you email me the URLs of
the relevant posts, I'll see if one looks unfamiliar.

You've got a score of 3, now, in my list, so maybe one of
the posts you mention will show up on my newsgroup server
in a day or so.

Pepper.

Mutt/mix. Terrier... smooth fox? Welsh corgi?
A 19 pound, black & white dog. Sorta piebald.
Perky ears.

I am completely baffled as to why he wound up with the
animal rescue people. He's a sweetheart, and he hasn't
demonstrated any behavioural problems. I've handled
his paws, peered in his mouth, up-ended him, bathed him,
combed him (flea comb, so I hunted & poked everywhere)...
he's fine. Fine with strange people, fine with strange
dogs. Wants attention, wants affection, likes to stay
close.

Am told he has "toy possessiveness" issues. He can't
be with small kids because if they take his toys he
may snap. But a little kid nearly poked his eye out
yesterday at the vet (in spite of my instructions
and demonstrations of proper dog petting on the neck
and shoulder), and he was fine, so it's just the
toy thing. I haven't had a problem with it, but so
far I haven't even been able to persaude him that the
rawhide on the floor is, indeed, his. We'll see.

He did growl at a cat, but the cat growled first! The
cat, which thinks my porch belongs to it, objected to
me bringing Pepper home from a walk. I was trying to
let them make friends (Pepper's body language was
friendly, though the cat probably can't read canine
body language), but the cat crouched and looked about
to swipe, so I told it to scat. Pepper may have just
been backing me up. Or excited by the fuss.

I've been spending a lot of time in the evenings on
dog stuff this week. Walking, flea combing, last night's
bath... So pleased to finally have a dog again!

Cool. Pictures?? You shoudl play a bit in rec.pets.dogs.* for a while.
rpd.behaviour is the most heavily populated with the most traffic. If you
post a pic and provide a link and put it up in rpd.breeds, lots of people
will chime in with possible suggestions.

If you do go there, make sure you watch out for a coulpe of trolls that are
quite prevalent in the ng.

Pictures would be a good idea, I'm sure.

Really. They would.

I don't actually own a digital camera (or a computer),
so I have to wait until Pepper meets my friends who _do_
own a digital camera before I can put anything online.

I'm not worried about what breeds he may be. I kinda
think breeds are a load of hooey - he's a dog. That's
what really matters. <g>

I glanced at the Kennel Club www site, though. And
the vet, last night, agreed with my assessment. (Like
me, was much more interested in the "good health", "no
heartworm", "good behaviour" details.)

I may try hitting outside-me resources for pet training
info (he hasn't been taught some of the basics), but I'll
try my brother first. Brother loves to feel authoritative,
so I'll give him the opportunity to lecture me. He'll
love it.

(It so happens that, on this issue, he is IS authoritative.
He worked as a dog trainer for a few years. Formal
training, license, the whole bit.)

Heh. Someday I really am going to hit the hacker
newsgroups to find troll-revenge scripts.

Those are the best kind. Phoenix is a terrier/daushound mix.
Pookie (my parents' dog) is part collie, part eskimo spitz, part "good
question." (The father was a random wander-by when the mother's owners
didn't realize she was in heat.)

I had the same reaction to Phoenix. He was housebroken, he
doesn't bark, and he's very loving and adorable. (Everybody loves
him.) He was found wandering in a parking lot, so I am wondering if he
escaped from somewhere (he is an escape artist) and got lost. But why
his owners didn't go to the pound looking for him is anyone's guess.

 >Wants attention, wants affection, likes to stay

I sometimes wonder if that is a trait of pound puppies. Almost
every dog from the pound that I've seen acts like that. If I walk from
room to room, Phoenix is with me. When I eat dinner, he eats dinner.
He even sleeps in my bed. (I got him a nice doggie bed, and I think
he's laid on it twice...) It's rather cute.

I don't know that I've ever had a non-mutt, so I can't
compare. <g> (Ok, we _suspect_ Hector was a purebred,
tossed onto the streets because his color was "wrong".
Which is a ludicrous idea - what could be wrong with
his color? Everybody who met him always said, "what
a handsome dog!")

I've never had a terrier, though. I've heard 3-4 references
to "the terrier personality" in the last few days... MUST
find time to phone brother-the-dog-trainer!

Penny was like your Pookie. Her mom was in heat and got
out one night. whoops. Won't have that problem with
Pepper; he had That Fateful Visit with a vet when the
animal rescue folks got him. He's not as male as he
thinks he is anymore...

Pepper has shown interest in escape artistry. To date,
nothing I can't foil, easily. I need to teach him "come"
before he gets any more devious at it.

Perhaps Phoenix's prior owners didn't tag him? Did you
know you can get tags made on the spot in pet stores these
days? I remember mailing away and waiting 2 weeks for a
tag, years ago. The afternoon I said, "I'll take him" to
Pepper's foster mom, I stopped by one of those big petstores.
Stick a few tokens into a machine, use the touchscreen to
type out what I want, and the tag gets carved before my
very eyes! I had a tag for him before I had custody of
Pepper himself.

Hmmmm. Could be. Hector was a pound pup, and neurotically
affectionate. (Which could be disconcerting in a creature
with Those Teeth. And That Breath. If your eyes were
closed, you'd think a T-Rex was trying to make friends.)

But Brutus was also a pound dog, and he was quite independent.

Pepper sleeps on my bed, too. I'm going to put his dog bed
in the living room, for daytime napping. That way it will see
use, since he's locked out of the bedroom in the daytime. <g>
Pepper also follows me from room to room. He may, eventually,
figure out that in a 3 room apartment it's kinda tough
for me to get out of earshot.
